As a small organization, every aspect of life at the PoCo Muse thrives upon volunteer support. From exhibit design to greeting visitors, opportunities are available for every talent and interest.
Help the Porter County Museum by managing the flow of information and documentation.
Administrative assistants help with general office functions such as filing, bulk mailings, data entry and various tasks as needed by museum staff.
Requirements: Interpersonal skills, expert organization, speed, accuracy and attention to detail. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and keyboarding skills of 30+ words per minute a plus.
The museum has a vast collection in need of preservation and organization.
Volunteers in this area will assist in the inventory and cataloging of the Museum’s collection. This is a great opportunity to view the items and areas that are rarely made available to the public.
Requirements: Attention to detail, willingness to work in teams and individually, knowledge of Past Perfect Software a plus.
Every year the Porter County Museum sees hundreds of school-aged children tour the museum. Tour guides help history come alive for these kids as they learn fun and valuable information about Porter County.
Tour guides work with the Museum staff to become familiar with the Museum’s six permanent exhibits. Once you have become a PoCo Muse expert, you’ll share that knowledge with tour groups, answer some creative questions posed by our younger visitors, and provides a personal touch to the museum experience.

Requirements: Personable, ability to speak in front of groups of 5-30 people.
Museum Experience Facilitator
Each day visitors walk in to the Porter County Museum seeking to learn something about the place they live. That experience begins as soon as they are greeted at the door.
You can help engage the past with the present by welcoming each guest into the Porter County Museum. Provide visitors with the information they need, give advice, and share your favorite exhibits as you help us educate, enrich, and inspire our communities!
Special Events volunteer
Everyday at the PoCo Muse, staff and volunteers are working to bring new programs to Museum members and visitors. If you love planning events, setting up behind the scenes, or circulating and chatting but don’t have time in your schedule to commit every week, this is the spot for you!
Special Events Volunteers agree to help with Museum special events. They may be asked to help plan an event, greet visitors, serve refreshments, take photographs, or any other related activities.
